Quote: 1933 with some girl holding a torch and her hair blowing in the wind. No... way.... seriously? Lookie here... you coin has its own Wikipedia article! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1933_Double_EagleBut unfortunately I doubt it's authentic. A real one... well... is illegal to own... but can fetch around $7.6 million.

There is light even wear over the entire coin esp. noticed on the eagle's head and the device above(higher relief areas and expected). But overall in very good condition. It is common to find old gold in such condition because it is likely to be hoarded and high value currency sees less circulation than lower denominations. This would be worth third party grading(your here now, might as well read up on it!) I do not grade anyone's coins but my own. The value of this coin can be looked up on many sites that sell world gold coins, but you can check ebay completed listings(gold 15 ruble, and try the alternate spelling rouble) to see what the market will bear. ... edit >>> pictures removed as you soon will see why

Quote: I guarentee it isn't real than We won't be able to guess at that until you post pictures of it.. I'm sorry about your Grandpa.. but welcome to the forum.. at least here you can learn a LOT about your inheritance. Ask away, and post lots of pictures (we LOVE pictures!). By the way, if the Russian rouble gold coin is real, it sounds like he knew what he doing collecting-wise, so why would he have had a fake one of the lady with the torch? Just a thought..

Quote: Now I think you might be pulling my leg. This looks so much like the one I found on Google. wheezydog Perhaps not sourced from the same picture, but of the same coin. The dings and marks on Liberty's leg are very similar.

Usually "I inherited this" or "found these under a floorboard" or "found an old box in the attic" is the first clue. Never the less, if we ever do get a real find, at least good advice and a nice warm welcome was given.
