Problem...1944-D s were commonly altered to look like a 1914-D. When the "flag" from the 4 is removed, you get a wider space after the 9 in the date that between the 9 and 1 on a genuine 1914-D.
In the pictures it appears that your penny has that wider spacing, but that also could just be from the wear and damage. Check to see if there is a VDB visible on Lincoln's shoulder. On a genuine 1914-D there is not. But, then again, that could have been removed as well.
I find it suspect that the rest of the lettering on the coin is clearly visible and just the area where an altered one would need to be blurred to try to pass it off as legit is the messed up area. I know I never would pay good money for one like this.
