Were these coins overpriced to begin with and minted in too great a number?

Cool video mrcruise, thanks for posting it here.
Had me looking for an Opal Monkey.
Have disregarded Perth Mint as rubbish , may take a closer look now.

There are many parameters that determine the value of a silver coin

RAM $5 seem to be the ones to avoid- having said that I'm sure many have made money early on with these coins but due to limitations of purchase amounts that profit will be short lived

Perth Mint opals seem to be the diamond in the rough - they take a while to take off but once they do they retain their value especially the lunar series

I think it is a bit late to get into 2016 Lunar Opal Monkey coin as it started to spike in 2020

Maybe Lunar 2023 + 2024 still have some potential to go up but no definite trend as yet though 2023 almost double its issue price at the moment and 2024 at over 60%

Since lunar opals make up 4 out of 10 of the top 10 they maybe a way to be longterm

Don't disregard Perth Mint swan coloured coins also

Just my opinion

More to do with the opals than the silver.

I got invited to the release of the SAS 2007 $1 silver coin at the SAS Campbell barracks in Perth, so I attended and bought the coin.
It is the only coin I have bought from Perth Mint. From memory it cost $80 and there was big demand for it, for a while. I saw one sell for $550.
I ended up selling it a few years later for about what I paid for it.
