Can anybody help me.

Noodled this coin this morning, has the QEII Effigy on one side but the other side (reverse) is completely smooth as if missed the die.

Has anyone seen this before, or does anyone have further info on this. I have never seen one before and don't know if more are out there.

Would be interested in potential value etc.

PMD for sure, you will have to weigh it though for certainty . Happy noodling.

Weight is exactly 6.6 grams. This is the same as all other $2 coins.

It can't "miss the die" - it's impossible to strike a coin on only one side, just like it's impossible to clap your hands with only one hand. To make a coin, you need two dies to squeeze the metal between.

So either someone deliberately made a "blank die", inserted it into the coin press, and struck just one coin from it, then put that coin out into circulation for a while (as the obverse is quite well worn) - or it's a perfectly normal coin that has had one side erased. Occam's Razor suggests that second option is most likely to be true.

It is possible that the coin is counterfeit - and the counterfeiter made the fake coin too heavy. So someone else then took the counterfeit coin and shaved metal off until the weight was correct, to try to pass it in a vending machine. This scenario, too, is more probable than it being an actual mint error of some kind.

Excellent comparison - never heard that one before

To CCF! It's PMD. Probably sanded down.
