I don't know if anyone else has counted, but according to my count, I think we blew past 100 "valid" deniers on page 18, and are now at 131! A handful have been duplicated, but I suspect fewer than 10. I think we've had 9 different members contribute. I haven't tried to count how many issuers we've covered. Certainly we've blanketed France pretty well, also Low Countries, and done a good job in Eastern Europe (Bohemia, Moravia, Poland, Hungary, Serbia). We've got a smattering of north and south Italy. I have a feeling spence is going to take us over the parts of Germany he hasn't already covered over the next days. And I am guessing there are a lot of medieval English pennies in the hands of members who haven't seen the thread yet. We've seen some gloriously well preserved MS and AU examples and some BUNBR (Beat Up Nearly Beyond Recognition ) WOW! Great thread! (thanks erafjel)

Well I posted up one English coin near the beginning - I think I have one more that fits the parameters here.

How cool would it be to get to 200 unique submissions to this thread? Here is an early 13th Century Pfennig from the HRE minted in Nürnberg. Another lion!

Quote: WOW! Great thread! (thanks erafjel) I am pretty amazed myself over the response. It is so enjoyable to see all the differently styled deniers from different places. I should thank you, tdziemia, and Spence, for maintaining the flow!

Back to Poland and surroundings ... This denar is attributed to the Margraviate of Glogau (Silesia) circa 1180-1190. When I bought it about 25 years ago it had been attributed as Poland, but apparently this was revised in the intervening years. The obverse has the sort of stylized church seen on 12th c. German coins, and the reverse a fortified wall or gate.

Quote: Yes, British (and Irish) pennies are welcome, I look forward to seeing them! (from @era a ways up thread) This Pfennig from the Austrian City State of Salzburg was minted at Freisach between 1216 and 1220:
