I'm back to Switzerland with this so-called "Square" Pfennig from Soloturn, featuring Saint Ursus.

Pretty denar indeed! I thought I had a similar one from a few decades earlier, but can't (yet?) find the pics anywhere. So I'll post a 16th century Lithuanian denar instead. ...sorry for the absolutely tiny pics! I had it listed as 1555 for a while, but the last digit of the date is very weakly preserved, so I'm not actually sure. It's definitely from the 1550s, though. EDIT: and a glorious bracteate! It's neat how those can be attributed at all.

Quote: a glorious bracteate! It's neat how those can be attributed at all. I think St. Ursus (VRSVS) is diagnostic for Solothurn on those ... I bid on one once, and might again, since I am missing that coin in my saints theme. On that Lithuanian denar, I am wondering if the eagle slapping its own head with the left wing might allow us to trace it to a specific year... I will look. Here is a denaro of the Duchy of Ferrara from the reign of Alfonso I (1505-1534):

Yes go for it @tdz! Here is a mid-13th Century, uniface Pfennig from Vienna. The edges have been slightly clipped in an effort to harvest some silver. I haven't posted it to CCF previously.
