Nice contributions, Spence and mrwiskers - that Ferdinand denar is lovely! I am also showing a 16th century coin today. Denier tournois, France, 1530-1532, Francis I, Rouen. Billon, 1.09 g, 18 mm. Obverse: FRANCISCVS FRANCORV REX (Francis King of the French). Two fleurs-de-lis (signifies denomination). Reverse: TVRONVS CIVIS FRANCORVM (Tours City of the French). Indicates a denier tournois.

Quote: Very nice one @mrw and about 500 years younger than this one: Don't hold us in suspense! Also Hungary? And those Blois and Milan coins are flat out GORGEOUS!! I will follow spence's 11th c. Bishopric of Utrecht denar struck under Bishop Bernolphus at the Groningen mint with a different one from the same place, with Saint Boniface, looking like an alien . Seller's photos because mine of the same coin came out crummy: Copyright Warszawskie Centrum Numizmatyczne Obverse: Retrograde SCS BONIFA CARH (Sanctus Bonifacius Archiepiscopus) Reverse: GRV / ON IN / GE in center

Quote: Don't hold us in suspense! Also Hungary? Great point. I should have been more descriptive and have now added that detail. Yes Hungary! Over to Orleans now for me with this late 11th or early 12th Century French Denier.

The French medievals are nice to see together in this thread (thanks erafjel!). I am slightly east in the Archbishopric of Trier (Bermany) with this denar struck under Poppon of Babenberg 1040-1047, N#373055: The reverse (first photo) has Saint Simeon in front of the Porta Nigra, the old Roman city gate of Trier. Simeon was an odd kind of holy person, a hermit who ensconced himself in one of the niches of the city gate, I guess like modern flagpole sitters. Now that I look at the cross side, the photo propably has the coin upside down, likely legend + POPPON retrograde.

Great perspective on St. Simeon @tdz. Here is another Bohemian/HRE Denar featuring St. Wenceslaus.

Quote: Saint Boniface, looking like an alien An alien with a mustache . . . Nice coin, though! Quote: denar struck under Poppon of Babenberg 1040-1047 The reverse (first photo) has Saint Simeon in front of the Porta Nigra, the old Roman city gate of Trier. Interesting to see a depiction of an actual building on an early coin like this! Quote: late 11th or early 12th Century French Denier Always nice with French deniers! Quote: Here is another Bohemian/HRE Denar featuring St. Wenceslaus. That one is splendid! Me, I'm still in the 16th century, now entering the copper era. The first French copper coins - 1 and 2 deniers - were issued in 1577. The use of mechanical presses improved the quality considerably compared to the old style hammering. Denier tournois, France, 1579, Henry III, Paris. Copper, 1.32 g, 17.5 mm. Obverse: HENRI III R DE FRAN ET POL (Henry III King of France and Poland). Portrait of the king. Reverse: DENIER TOVRNOIS.
