Hello all,

I came across a collection of coins that looked interesting and although I knew most were replicas this 1788 Massachusetts cent has me confused. The weight is 5.5 grams +/- .01 and the "seam" that's a telltale sign of electroplating seems more like a coin made in a die, however I'm new and could be totally wrong.

Please help!

Looks like a cast replica to me with the rough grainy surfaces.

Yes and that letter C in the exergue stands for "copy".

Massachusetts cents seem to be one of the most copied pre-Federal coins, at least this one is marked as a copy!

Agree with @Spence - appears to be a cast copy
