Quote: I'm from the NY/NJ area and didn't recognize it. Considering such location, perhaps you were thinking the Palisades?

That is quite possible - it has been a very long time since I have been back there.. I may have to look up the Palisades again

Though the brochure for the Cooper medal doesn't attribute this comment re: the reverse's allegorical design Quote: The reverse of the Cooper medal strives to convey the Human Family led by the Spirit of inquiry through education on the arduous path to the Summit seeking the light of Truth through Inspiration ( Pegasus ) " to sculptor Anthony De Francisci, it's not hard to think the designer of the Peace dollar could have written that. The rays emerging from the summit resemble the ones emerging from Teresa's radiate crown. . . The bluff reminds me of the backdrop for many John Ford westerns, Monument Valley.

Known more for his poltical achievements - including being the primary author of the US Declaration of Independence and the third US President - Thomas Jefferson was also an avid inventor/innovator. Among his recognized inventions: the Moldboard Plow of Least Resistence (a dramatic improvement over existing farm plows), the Cipher Wheel (device for encoding and decoding messages) and the zigzag roof (a roofing system that provided for better runoff of rain water to prevent leakage). See Thomas Jefferson and Technology for much more.

Hall of Fame for Great Americans at NYU also paid tribute to the inventive Wright Brothers. Paul Fjelde was the artist of this 1967 issue by MACO.
