Hi!

I have a few 1965 Churchill coins, but I just want to work out why one is a different colour to the others. I've read about the elusive "Satin Proof" version but I'm not convinced because God is not that kind, but also if you look closely at the discoloured one in question (even in these shrunken pictures), you can just about see some damage on his eyebrow, ear and collar which reveal the standard silver finish below.

Any advice on what's going on, here? I know the coin was reproduced a while back, wasn't sure if it was to do with that or something. - Any thoughts? Why is this one coin different from the others?

Thanks!

- Giles.

Three pedestrian business strikes .
The discoloured coin is due to environmental
Issues.

That makes sense. - Any idea what would cause a coin to do that? I'm fairly new to coin collecting, be good for long term knowledge.

Metal reacts in interesting ways when exposed to environmental agents.

A lot these were sold/ distributed in little plastic envelopes. Most of them were probably the kind that decay and react with metal. Add that to the moisture/ air/ reacting with it, and it is a wonder that these coins are not in worse shape.

All interesting stuff! - The most faded one turned up in a "all UK 1965 coins" listing, the yellow one turned up in a bag of mixed world coins, and the clearer silver one turned up in an (authentic) old coin-tin listing. It's technically the clearest of the 3, but it has tiny black spots on it likely cause by life in the tin!
