A mystery package arrived today. My Secret Santa obviously saw my want list, which has a number of recent U.S. coins. These are all going in my albums. Thanks a lot!

I know I did put up a want list here two years ago. I am unable to find my list anywhere on this site. I just wanted to update my want list.

And how do I make it easier for our group to find in the future?

Carrigna, I recently visited Uzbekistan. You are right about the strong inflation. Coins are hardly used there, and banknotes are difficult to find, but they can be found in good condition. I brought back some banknotes and coins from there. You can see them in my topic.

Yep! I spoke with my friend yesterday who was from Uzbekistan and visited there last summer. He said no one really use coins and they usually like to use the notes that is over 5,000 som. He was able to get me AU/UNC notes after visiting several banks. He even said people would not accept any coin in changes and they will not take 2,000 som note or less.

The coins can be found easily in supermarkets, they are mostly 1000 som coins.

He had much difficulty in finding phased out notes. He managed to find three1,000 som notes. Phased notes are mostly 10,000 soms.

He remembers when they changed over from Soviet rubles to first som. It was very bad and difficult time for everyone. Prices skyrocketed within few months. Saw several people especially businessmen unable to exchange their rubles and they had to burn them to avoid the government.

That's when he and his family immigrated to the US. He had not been home until last summer. He mentioned his old home is no longer there, in its place, a shop!

Big difference from my native country with a stable currency. We only see one change to our currency was when we decimalised.
Sadly, I think our currency will get much weaker in the coming years, exchange rate-wise.
