Quote: I don't see 500,000 as being a low mintage number. . . With some coins that's not a low number, cptbilly. But, I think when you consider how popular the Silver Eagle is in the US and around the world that's a different story. It is still the lowest minted bullion Silver Eagle ever produced.

500K mintage is lowest bullion ASE so far but I would not use the word "rare." Rare to me is more like ancient coins or US classic coins where only 1 to less than maybe 50 are known, that's rare. I would not call 500K a low mintage or scarce either, just lowest mintage of the series which isn't hugely impressive IMO. At 500K they won't be hard to get one in the future. But yeah, for those who collect ASE, they'll surely want the star variety and will be interesting to see if/when the mint releases more unique privy ones.

500k is not a low mintage. The value will be contingent on the market. Since this coin is tailored to gamers and not coin collectors once a bunch are dumped on the market the price may dump, or it may not. I'll get one when they go for bullion plus a premium.

My LCS had not heard of them before my inquiry today re: raw ungraded examples. . .one would think a shop within 30 minutes of the CC mint would be aware. As I've mentioned before, my neck of the woods (Reno) is bereft of options for collectors. I'll see what pops up in the weeks and months to come for unslabbed examples, heeding hfjacinto's advice. FYI: APMEX is asking $41.80 each for CC/PayPal. . .$40.13 for Check/Wire. . .raw prices headed in the right direction (for ASE collectors)

Those are pretty cool... as others have said, if they ever get down to near-bullion prices, I'll add one for the CAPS album.
