I've come across an 1992 5c coin, about unirculated, in a consistent deep brown/black tone.
Could this be original or perhaps environmental impact?
Attached photos of a regular 5c of the same year for comparison.
Have noted a slight-double rim on the left side of the portrait. I will place a mark for reference.
Haven't seen a coin like this before.
Would be greatly appreciated if anyone could give some insight!
Thank-you.

The color is most likely due to environmental exposure (e.g. being in the ground). The double rim is caused by a slightly misaligned die on the obverse. These are both common phenomena.

There is a possibility that the color is due to mint error in a similar fashion to American "Black Beauty" nickels, but I'm not familiar with the prevalence, if any, of that in these coins.

To CCF! The toning could be from environmental exposure. The doubled rim might be what we call a Rim Fin. https://www.error-ref.com/finning/#...ultaneously.
