The photos look very similar on NGC and I want to know what type of in-person test would work to differentiate between the two.

Those pictures are of the same coin.

The matte proof says "*Image(s) not of exact coin"

I'm sure the different finish is detectable in-hand.

Try checking on the bay for slabbed ones to compare.

If you know what a typical proof would look like (mirrored fields with full cameo) then the matte version should look completely different with barely if any cameo visible and (usually) lusterless fields, those coins could easily pass for a very badly cleaned/stained coin to the untrained eye... Id say the difference between the standard proof issue vs a matte proof is more important than vs a Business strike.

I never seen the coin in question but Id expect it to look similarly to those ones since it was most likely struck for the same purpose :

Now compare the last coin with those two :

It took a while to get back but here is a section of the 1959 Bermuda Crown coin in question. Does its rim appear as a sharply squared-off or "full" rim that stands almost perpendicular to the edge of the coin? This is the definition of what a matte proof coin apparently has compared to a business strike. I'm having trouble distinguishing it.

Also does the surface appear as a silky sand-blasted matte proof instead of a business strike?

For those of you who are hesitant to state an opinion if this is a matte proof or business strike, let me know if there is inadequate information written or showing and what I could do to receive some more CCF responses. ie.: do the device edges appear sharp enough to be a proof or are more closeups required in these areas. I don't know enough about this subject to ask more pertinent questions.

I have to make a decision by next Fri, 12/5, on if its worth it to get it graded at NGC since my grading contract is expiring shortly.
