*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. It's very important to have in the title. ***

So I recently got back a submission for the 1908 D Barber dime graded by ANACS (Yes I know ANACS isn't the best, but I don't wanna spend extra money on subscriptions on PCGS and NGC).

I expected this grade to have XF details but it came back as VF details. I compared the XF45 details on PCGS photo grade and both my coin and the picture seems similar. You can see especially the headband details on the observe and corn detail on the reverse are really similar.

I want your thoughts on this grade. Is this me or ANACS messed up? What should I do?

Larger, straight-on images would be best.

Agree that clearer photos are needed. There is often a fine line between VF and XF, and in this case the details designation will have a bigger impact on the value than the actual grade.

From your photos the coin appears to have wear of a XF example, but on a details coin it can be net graded because of the problems. There appears to be not much difference in value of a VF and XF details for a 1908 D dime. When sending in coins to a TPG, you should consider the cost of grading, shipping and insurance. On most coins the example has to have a value of $200 plus to justify the grading fees. I like your dime, but I would be just as happy having it raw as sitting in a TPG holder.

I agree with you, XF is appropriate here.

Call ANACS and explain your concern - it may have been an error when the label was printed out.
