I bid on this earlier, didn't win. Just curious on the CCFs thoughts on grade? Seller listed it as possibly cleaned. What do you all think about the hits on the neck, date and rim, and possible cleaning, detail or not?

That's a tough call.....on one hand it's a great looking Barber from the 1800's, but on the other hand it definitely has rim damage.

I also don't like those three hits on the neck.

One crisp Barber. I think it is UNC and not cleaned based on images. If it details it would be from Reverse rim damage, neck hits - while distracting - would likely pass.

Edit to add: I don't like the lack of any luster showing given condition, hope seller was not monkeying with lighting to hide issues.

I'll say AU/Unc details (rim damage, probably cleaned).

tough call. Definitely retoned if it was cleaned. the nicks on the neck are fairly deep and are displacing metal which is what they look for for a details designation. i'd say there's an 75% chance it would not grade straight
