I've heard half dollars made after 2001 were not produced for circulation, but from what I understand they aren't worth much unless it's a proof coin that was broken out of a set. I have to ask this, because in a recent box I ordered, I've been finding a LOT of 2023 half dollars from both mints. None of the rolls appear to be solid rolls of this date, but at least half of the coins have been 2023-D in some of them. Are these considered "not issued for circulation" or NIFC? Would that make them worth anything extra if they are?

The Fed has ordered half dollars for circulation recently, so some of the 202x are not really NIFC. But it's not always clear which dates are what.

JFK Halves are only de facto NIFC, based on the Fed not needing them. But when there is a demand from the Fed banks, the Mint will supply them.

It seems the Mint has been filling Fed orders in the last few years...

Then stopped...

Then (probably) started again...

2023 are definitely intended for circulation as one of my recent boxes was almost 50% 2023's along with many boxes int he last 6 months that had more than a few 2023's and other 2015 to date high relief mixed in.

The twist is that I early on a few months ago when they started showing up I have found more than a few MS 1964's and a few Franklins and Walkers mixed in as well.

I have been out of the game for the last 6 years due to a job change but I think I may have been my own worst enemy back in the day of CRH and overfishd my own pond as I once got a coin I marked (yes I said it) on a Saturday at one brand of bank and got it back on a Tuesday pickup from a different chain.

Arby used to post about massive scores but eventually the well dried up.

If you have been in the game long enough you know the patterns and learn to ignore the false rumors and specialization posts from "outsiders" who repeat what they have heard online like Loomis or Wells Fargo culls silver at their sorting facilities.

The local downfall 8 years ago was Chase and BMO took their coin counting machines out of their branches and you had to roll your coin deposits.

TBH, this is a tough one to navigate... Any date from 2002-2016 and 2019-2020 would be a YES... 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024, would be a NO.
