1964 Kennedy Half SMS From Earlier Post In Comparison

What is the difference and why is it without wear that the 64 is frosted and nothing in comparison next to the ordinary Kennedy? Report this Post to the Staff

Brandmeister Pillar of the Community United States 6535 Posts	Posted 10/21/2024 12:00 am I would start with the observations that 1. the 1964 is 90% silver, and the other coin is cupronickel clad, which do not look the same under most lighting conditions, and 2. there were obverse design changes between those years. An apples to apples comparison would be either a second uncirculated 1964 half dollar (negative) or a 1965 SMS half dollar (positive). My 2¢: those fields do not look SMS, all other factors aside.
