If you rotated the medallion sides so that the script was horizontal, you might be able to load the images in Google Translate, and so find out what they say.

My best guess would be yes, it's religious, and they are verses from the Qu'ran.

The second image reads Allah Noor Al Samawati Wal Ardi. Its a koranic verse and translates as Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth.
