I haven't had much luck this year searching for silver coins in $500 boxes of bank-rolled half dollars. My luck changed a bit on Wednesday after I acquired one box at a bank branch I don't visit that often. The first forty rolls didn't contain anything interesting. But I subsequently opened three rolls that each contained one 90% silver Kennedy half dollar. Because they are in uncirculated condition, I think this box contained a small portion of a valuable collection dump. Therefore, I've ordered two more boxes from the same bank hoping I will find more coins from that dump. Probaboy not -- but CRHs have to be optimistic.

On Friday I stopped at a different branch of the same bank after a teller told me she had $15 in half dollars. When she handed them to me she apologized that they weren't wrapped. I didn't mind -- I found two more 1964 Kennedy half dollars! These coins are much less appealing than the other three. In fact, I didn't identify the discolored coin until I saw the date.

Because I generally find more 40% silver half dollars than 90% silver coins, I know that I had a very lucky streak this week.

Let's see:
Melt = $12.18 ea.

After waiting two weeks, I finally was able to acquire another Brinks $500 box of half dollars from the branch where I found three 1964 Kennedy half dollars in a similar box. My hope increased when I saw that one roll had a proof "ender" because on other occasions I have found silver coins and proof coins in the same batch. But not this time -- an impaired 1987-S proof half dollar was the only interesting coin in the box. If the silver coins I found in late October were from a collection dump, Brinks probably has redistributed the rest of those coins to other customers.
