This is undoubtedly a Henning Nickel. I saw the reverse first and noticed it looked old then I saw the notch in the R and knew right away but still thought - no way! Obverse showed 1947 which was a match for a Henning year and just to fully confirm it was 5.22 grams on the scale.

Don't we have a Henning expert here on CCF? Does ANACS slab those? John1

Congrats!
Looks like an authentic Hennings counterfeit. Only ICG will slab it. Good luck.

Sweet find @sich. That R is super-clear.

Spectacular! A genuine Henning nickel has to be near the apex of Jefferson coin roll hunting. Congratulations. =)

Congratulations on an outstanding find. I never came across one in my 394,000 nickel roll searching. Quote: Don't we have a Henning expert here on CCF? We have had several over the years. Not sure if any of them continue to post here. The following 15-year old thread discussed the 'definitive test for a Henning nickel' - worth a read if you are interested in the topic: https://www.coincommunity.com/forum...PIC_ID=53117

How can you all tell anything from these pics? Looks like it says FIVZ CENT to me. Is that correct for a Henning

A previous post about a "Henning" 1947 nickel found in the SEARCH box....... http://goccf.com/t/418871I know Henning made his nickels to look circulated but the OP's nickel seems to be highly circulated meaning, if actually a Henning nickel, then it would have been in circulation for quite some time.
