As it seems a bit quiet here, I thought this fantasy coin might inspire some comment.
Crown size, not silver but higher Nickel content than usual Cupro-nickel coins.
Obverse Victoria and usual legend, except they have added in the date.
Reverse the shield of an Edward VII half crown, but with altered legend and no date.
The question is, what did they think they would achieve with this? No one could be fooled into thinking it was either a crown or a half crown, and it is not original enough to have attraction as a hobo coin?
It only cost me £4 and came with a bunch of more original Hobo dollars and Crowns.

I've never seen this one before, but Richard Lobel of CoinCraft often advertises similar fantasy pieces in his Phoenix magazine, and I've even bought a couple myself - an Edward VIII sixpence and a William IV 'Three Graces' crown.

Ah, Thanks Rob. I try to avoid using swear words like Coin***ft, along with West****ter and Lond** M**t, but hey ho. I assume it would have cost someone a lot more than £4 when new!

A confection!

Not sure where I first saw that term used to describe such pieces -- probably in Jerry Remick and Somer James's British Commonwealth Bible -- but it fits nicely, I think.

So do Frankencoin, concoction, mutant, monstrosity...

But as my dear old Dad liked to remark, "'To each his own,' said the farmer as he kissed the cow."

For interest, here are three more of the Hobos from the group. What I find worrying is how good the "good" sides look! Without the false reverse, it would be easy to see these as genuine. The USA CC dollar in particular - and I have seen many fakes of these go through UK auctions and fetch close to genuine prices.
