I recently bought some 2 x 2 cardboard flips that were quite thin. They were foreign made (based on the characters on the box), looked cheap and flimsy, and bent easily. I was wondering if the thick 2 x 3 cardboard flips were better at protecting coins or if there is no difference.

Anyone have any experiences/recommendations to share (that is, thick or thin is better)?

Good question @blac.

It seems like in the "old days" all 2x2s were thick whereas anything that I've bought recently is thin. I didn't realize that I had a choice. The thicker ones may protect the coins a bit better since they space the coins farther apart in their boxes, but you can fit more coins in a box with the thinner carboard. If the prices were the same, I personally would be buying the thicker ones.

The thickness is not as important as the quality of the transparent material within the 2X2.

Thin is better and make sure the "window" is clear not hazy. I like to buy my 2x2's in person and not online.

Mylar (biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate, aka BoPET) or else.
