 A common cent that appears to have been subjected to a foreign substance to corrode the copper to make it look like that.   post mint damage or PMD. Keep looking, real errors are still out there, and we have a few websites we recommend here on the CCF like error-ref.com, among others to show legitimate errors. |

Much post-strike damage--likely of a corrosive nature. An accurate weight to two decimal places would be good to know.

To CCF! Just a damaged coin. PMD. Not an error. Save your money and don't get it graded. Errers and Varietys.

You guys are probably right and that's the first thing I thought of, but Howard did the head get larger and those areas on the backside get raised if it was just corrosion?  |

My vote is for this being due to heat rather than corrosion, but regardless--the coin didn't leave the mint looking like this.
