Haven't seen one of these in Rome. It appears to have been improperly cleaned at some point. I know a lot of collectors really like this design but I am not crazy about it

I'm not an expert, but it looks correct to the one I have. With
It being cleaned the numismatic premium should be low. At the current price of gold, I wouldn't pay much over spot for it.

If the dealer is charging more than $75 over spot I would pass. Grey sheet is saying $395/$400 but that's not cleaned, so $350-$375 is a good price. It has $320 in gold.

Thanks @hfj, with gold what it is right now and my overall feeling of the design, I'll probably pass; I've been picky on gold since it seems to be a buyer's market.i just don't have as many options here.

A lot of gold coins look cleaned because the metal is so soft. Can't see any evidence of cleaning here.

Coinfrog, around the stars on the obverse I see hairlines. You don't see them?

Perhaps, but even casual handling can produce marks like these, and there may be some Die Deterioration. As stated, these images do not suggest a cleaning to me.

I think this one might be a Lebanese counterfeit.

This is what a genuine coin looks like in the eagle's tail feathers.

Too many good counterfeits out there to risk buying a raw Indian quarter eagle, even if it has gold value. Probably wise to pass.

It would have fooled me, so I agree it is best to avoid raw gold like this.
