I have started a new series of articles on Victorian cents that will run in the CN Journal for the next couple of years. The first one is now up on the RCNA website in the member's section. The paper copies of the Journal should be out in the next week or two.

I hope folks find the articles interesting.

If I had to guess, Rob already has the papers written up.

I hope folks liked Article #1, which talked about 1858 cents. I just submitted Article #2. It starts into the 1859 cents and should be available online in the members section of the RCNA website by the end of this month. The paper copy should be out by mid-March.

This coin did not make the cut for the articles, but it is pretty neat nonetheless. 1859 Narrow 9 with a re-punched 1 in the date. PCGS AU-55.

Here is a duplicate I have that did not make it into the articles. I have kept it for many years because in some ways it is nicer than my MS-64RB. This one is an 1859 DPN9 T2 in PCGS MS-63 RB, and a pretty coin.

Well, I got my CN Journal on Friday and your first (of many I hope) chapter on Uncommon Cents is there and was a joy to read. Great, magnified color images married to the discussion being explained was perfect. Everyone should read and see what is in the initial chapter of the Canadian "Uncommon Cents" history. Congrats, again, Rob for all that you do for Canadian Numismatics.

The second Uncommon Cents article has been posted in the members section of the RCNA website. The paper CN Journals should be out in a week or two.

This month, 1859 W9/8, 1859 N9, and 1859 Brass.

Well, I've had my new Journal for 2 days now and, again, Rob has written a great article. As above, it's a good presentation of the 9/8, the '58 and the brass '59, and some valuable mint numbers that show the mintages for each type., Additionally he shows the "projected" mintages of the '58's and '59's based on die strikings for each die. As Rob has stated before, he thinks that the published mintages for the '58 are too low and the 9/8's as too high. It shows the '58's at 1.5 million plus and the 9/8's at less than 500K, which are just about reversed from the #'s in Charlton or other pub. Again, great job bosox.

Unfortunately, in the online digital copy, the photo on the bottom left of page 65 (the brass cent) is incorrect. It was correct when I proofed the article and something changed after. I haven't seen the print version yet.

The correct photo is this one:

The digital version should be corrected in a day or two. I think they are going to reprint corrected pages 64 and 65 in the next issue for the print copy subscribers.
