Now trying to understand, my only thought is...it is a well worn coin no doubt and possibly an old cleaning, maybe the alternative was a Good Details if not the assigned AG-3?

This coin should not have been netted for anything. It's closer to a 5 than a 3 imo. It's a possible gold sticker candidate at CAC but would likely end up with a green sticker. A gold sticker would be a huge win for you and that's possible.

It would get the G04 it deserves on another day. NGC was too conservative on this nice key date.

You have a top tier TPG certified key date coin which is widely counterfeited - so why quibble with a subjective grade point?

I say rejoice in what you have and move on to the next coin in your collection pursuit.

Rims worn down to the top of the letters, especially on the reverse puts this at a G-4 all day long. An AG-3 would be worn well into the letters which this coin is not. NGC got this one way wrong!

I am not shocked at all. It does not have full rims which is a requirement for Good. Very attractive key date.
