Hello,

I have ungraded 1856-S $3 Gold Coin. What do you think this grade would be and value in the auction market?

Thank you!

It appears cleaned with VF+ Details. Assuming it's genuine I would value it around $1,000. It needs to be authenticated. Many counterfeit $3 gold pieces are out there. Good luck!

Really difficult to judge with those small photos taken inside a 2x2. From what I can see of the obverse there appears to be cleaning swipes.

This is a coin that unless you are a series expert needs to be authenticated by a TPG.

VF Details, Harshly Cleaned. It should slabbed by a reputable TPG company if you expect people to bid on it at auction.

ANACS would be your best choice for low-cost authentication. With a likely grade of "VF details, cleaned" I'd expect a sale price of maybe $700. If it graded problem-free (unlikely) it could fetch $1000 or more.

Agree with everyone here this is best to get it graded by PCGS or NGC if I was a buyer, most ebay VF graded example goes over $1,000.
