I'm not a typical collector, I would say my collection is mostly comprised of type and commemorative coins

Nothing really worked for displaying and storing my collection until I discovered the CAPS products

I have never regretted the decision to use it

I go with blank pages because I frequently reorganize my pages

Today I moved the SBA dollars from this page

And this is how it looks now

Nice collection....I just wish their album would be more in the size as the Dansco albums.

Are the capsules a standard size?

I thought storing coins in plastic would inevitably result in haze and possibly verdigris?

That's interesting.

Where do you get the pages and the capsules?

Thanks, although this binder is just one of six I'm currently populating

If they were smaller you would obviously have less pockets and the pages are at least 3 times thicker then Dansco so you would have to use more binders to hold the same number of coins

At their current size they seem like the appropriate way to store coins in Air-Tite capsules

The capsules are Air-Tite brand and they are available pretty much everywhere

I have never read that the plastic used for coin storage caused any issues

Craig sells the Binders and Pages via many venues but I'm pretty sure he is the only one that sells "CAPS" branded products

In other words, I don't think he whole sales his products to other retailers

He operates Valley Coin and the CAPS web sites and he also sells them through ebay and Amazon

Valley coin is the best place to order them from

The capsules are Air-Tite Brand

He sells a large variety of them but you can get them pretty much anywhere

I took a gamble on these a long time and ago and I'm glad I did, it's the only system that works for the way I collect coins

Can the coins be removed easily from the Air Tite capsules for occasional inspection and analysis? What holds them in the capsule?

I have been looking for something to store the variety nickels and dimes in my collection. But I need something that allows occasional inspection for markers and re-photographing.

I would not recommend that. The whole point of the capsule is being able to easily view all parts of the coin.

The two halves of the capsule fit together.

Make sure you get good, clean photos before you put them in. Yes, they can be removed, but each time you do so you risk weakening the capsule's seal.

Jbuck, I can see that some capsules are fitted for a denomination. But some of the coins in the pictures have a black ring around them, suggesting a spacer to fit a larger capsule (presumably because they are an odd size coin).

Air-Tite Capsules come in a variety of sizes but the CAPS system only has pages for A, T and H capsules

You have 2 types of Capsule - Direct Fit and Full size, although some full size capsules are direct fit for a specific coin such as an H or H-40 is a direct fit for an ASE

Direct fit refers to a reduced inner diameter to fit a specific coin that is smaller than the full size ID of the capsule

Example - An H-38 is a direct fit for a dollar size coin such as an Ike, Morgan, peace or Commemorative

If you want to use the black or white foam ring you buy the ring size in MMs that is equal to a direct fit for that coin

Example, if you want to use a black ring for a Morgan dollar you use and H or H-40 capsule with a 38MM black foam ring

Air-tite has rings for every size coin that will fit into a specific capsule

You can fit just about every coin into a H sized capsule using rings but obviously cannot fit a Peace dollar into anything other than an H sized capsule

The disadvantage of direct fit capsules is that sometimes the coins get stuck and unless the coin fits the full size version you cannot read the edger lettering

Example - I have 2016 ASEs in H capsules and you can read the edge lettering

The disadvantage of the rings is that you are normally using a larger capsule for a smaller coin so it will take more pages

Example - I use A pages for my quarters and can get 30 per page, if I used Direct Fit T capsules that would be reduced to 20 and if I went with Black Ring H Capsules it would only be 16

I hope this helps you understand the Air-Tite system a little better

That was an excellent breakdown, thank you!

I am going to read that again this evening, do some online research, and return with more questions.
