Are they toned from the mint packaging? I would think twice about doing this first!
Rinsing in water defeats the point. Water is very corrosive so its best to leave the acetone which will not react with the metal. Make sure its pure acetone as well and not the Mrs nail polish. Use gloves.

Thanks enworb. Hubby found instructions on ebay just now so I deleted the post before I saw your reply. The comment about water was helpful tho, as I had wondered about that. Haven't received the sets yet, so can't be sure about slime on them. Do the coppers become toned no matter what they're stored in?

with enworb, regarding the small chances of palming a 2000 $1 mule. But I still enjoy looking out for these. I like the idea of looking for my "grail" In the process I have found a near uncirculated 2000 $1 (normal) coin in my change. Plus some interesting $1 variety coins. A small consolation Squire

I am thinking about noodling $1 coins; but I dunno, I like the idea of bringing home $400 worth of 20c and getting 2000 coins, or $100 of 5s and getting 2000 coins - the idea of bringing home $400 of 50c pieces and only getting 800 coins make me :( so dollars the less coins is even more :(
