fortcollins Pillar of the Community United States 3669 Posts	Posted 04/02/2025 7:03 pm Everybody loves a good mystery. Well, maybe not this one. This coin started out in life as a Capped Bust dime. After all it's been through, that's about all it for certain still is. It could be a candidate for a PO-01 Details grade if the date could be determined. That's a really big "if." All guesses welcome. Have at it! These are the best photos I could capture. First, the whole hole coin mug shots (yes a double pun). And the best photo I could get of the full date . . . . . . and the best closeup I could get of the last two digits of the date. Adam590 Pillar of the Community United States 758 Posts	Posted 04/02/2025 7:45 pm I think the third digit is a 1. It could only be 1811 or 1814. Those are the only two dates from 1810 to 1819 when the US mint struck dimes. I would guess 1814 because it is more common, and because all 1811 dimes have the 1811/09 overdate. Zurie Pillar of the Community United States 5685 Posts	Posted 04/03/2025 06:49 am If you assume the top of the third digit is a 1, it's too close to the 8 to be an 1811. So that leaves 1814, and the date position may match JR-4. Report this Post to the Staff
