Undersized 2018 Cent, Possible Wrong Planchet.

tomchad Valued Member United States 63 Posts	Posted 04/07/2025 9:39 pm When I found this 2018 cent it seemed a bit light and small. Its smaller than regular cents but still has some copper on the edge, so I don't think it was cut or worn down. It doesn't have a raised rim which might be why the obverse and reverse are both worn through the copper coating. Also, it doesn't seem to be perfectly round. It seems like the planchet didn't go all the way to the edge when it was struck I weighed it on a decent scale and it came in at 2.30 grams. The regular 2017 cents all came in at 2.50. It isn't magnetic. Any thoughts on how this happened or if its a wrong or undersized planchet? Thanks, Tom Edited by tomchad 04/08/2025 03:09 am Report this Post to the Staff

tomchad Valued Member United States 63 Posts	Posted 04/08/2025 10:38 am I initially thought it was a Dryer Coin but the edge wasn't raised at all, and there is still copper on the edge. I couldn't figure how it would shrink down like that and still have some edge copper left and no raised area on the rim from the dryer action. Even in a bezel I thought it would still have a raised edge area.
