2026 American Buffalo One Ounce Gold Proof Coin Available May 7, 2026
2026, May 7
US Mint - The United States Mint (Mint) will begin accepting orders for the 2026 American Buffalo One Ounce Gold Proof Coin on May 7 at noon EDT. For the first 24 hours following the on-sale time, orders will be limited to one coin per household. To commemorate the Semiquincentennial of our Nation's founding, this special one-year-only American Buffalo Gold Proof Coin bears the dates "1776 ~ 2026" and a unique Liberty Bell privy mark with the numeral "250." The obverse (heads) portrays James Earle Fraser's profile representation of a Native American with the inscription "LIBERTY." The reverse (tails) features an American Buffalo and the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "$50," "1 OZ.," and ".9999 FINE GOLD." If you have to ask, you cannot afford it.

@Boba Debt You can get a pretty good idea by looking at the pricing grid and last year's current price $5600. With the recent volatility in gold, I'm sure they are waiting for the Wednesday pricing update to list a price.

Looks awesome, but I'll have to pass, due to the cost.

The Mint has the 24 & 25 Gold Buffaloes listed at $5590 - That might be a starting point for cost.

I prefer the larger proof fields of the gold eagle rather than the buffalo. But I do have one proof buffalo, a 2006 and a 2013 reverse proof buffalo I like a lot. Got both before spot prices went crazy high.

Mint posted its price today, $5,540. I'm not buying one anyway.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but the obverse is way too busy with the dual date, privy mark, and mint mark all crowded in the fields. But that's a problem that plagues many modern coin designs too.
