Last night after I came home from buying groceries, I looked through my change and noticed a penny that had some obverse damage which made it difficult to read the date. Upon closer inspection, I could see that the first three numerals were 195. Could this be my lucky day? I immediately turned the coin over and was greeted by a shimmering set of wheat stalks. It was indeed a lucky day!
Here it is. The reverse photo is disappointing because it doesn't fully show the amount of shiny luster; in fact, it's almost brass-like. No matter what I did, I couldn't my iPhone to replicate it. But you can see the beautiful detail in the wheat lines.
I suspect that one was cut loose when someone noticed the obverse damage. Could it have been improper plastic contact/storage over a period of many years?
