So in my browsing I came across a listing of the American Innovation $1 Type A & B. I didn't know this was a thing.

Type-A Take the Dollar, place the Obverse UP (Statue of Liberty) flat the lettering around the Rim reads UPSIDE DOWN

Type-B Take the Dollar, place the Obverse UP (Statue of Liberty) flat the lettering around the Rim reads CORRECT.

I think I'm going to have to draw the line on this one. I can't possibly fathom trying to get each variety considering they are only available in rolls or bags from the mind. I guess a true die hard AI collector would but there is just too many already between the P & D mint and the proof and reverse proof sets. It's getting kinda ridiculous.

The reason for this 'A/B' thing is that the edge lettering on the business strike coins is that it is added AFTER the main strike of the obverse and reverse. so the newly struck coin will randomly fall into the edge lettering press with either face ending up.
I have ho intention of trying to get the 'a/b thing either.

(I'm surprised nobody bothered to start a "where is the date/MM in relation to the bottom of the bust" collection.)

The same is true for Presidential dollars and Native American dollars. For the purposes of my sets, I ignore the A/B positions as well.

Don't even mention that..lol They need to just put the date and mint mark back on the obverse. The edge is going to wear down so fast plus you can't see it in an album. I wonder who's bright idea that was.

Yes, an annoying trait of the edged lettering on the circulated dollar coins.

The same happens with UK 1 pound coins that have edge lettering. Search ebay for "DECUS ET TUTAMEN upside down error".
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

One set of the dollar coins for me. No need for A/B set.

My golden dollar Dansco collections are proof only. I cannot see the edge in an album, so even the mint mark is useless, let alone its orientation.

I do collect Positions A and B, it gives my eyes a good workout. I just ordered the Michigan coins, set of four, two mints, two positions. I still wish the date and mint mark were on the obverse.

I was flipping channels the other day and came upon The Coin Vault. They were selling a P & D set of the Jefferson Presidential dollar with each mint mark having a position A and position B. So, a four coin set. AND they were certified as such by PCGS. All four are MS66.

Nah, I just stick them in a Dansco where I cannot see it.
