Quote: Now I use cotton gloves. good choice! I bought white cotton gloves from ebay came with a bunch in a bag so when one pair gets dirty, I get a new one. (I have been saving the soiled ones hoping to wash them, but have not yet done that until I can find a soap or cleanser that would be 'coin friendly'

Dearborn, I believe that by washing the white gloves, you will lose the soft, blush texture and might get rough... That was told to me by a long-time coin collector, I don't know how true it is. Maybe someone here can charm in on that... I go out and buy two sets of those white cotton gloves. They are cheap.

yep, that is possible, which is why I have not yet washed them. But to try and see won't hurt anything, 'if' I can get the correct process If not - then the trash will eat the m up..

Quote:I was going over / updating my Washington quarter collection to make it all AU/BU or better... A Lot of modern proofs with my own grubby finger prints on them... Quote:Now I use cotton gloves. Cotton gloves make me clumsier than I am already. I have always used something soft—like a new, white cotton t-shirt, for example—to push coins into the holes along the edges. I never press on the face, not even with gloves or other protection. Quote: Slides are ok as long as they are clean and the coin is correctly in. Correct.

I use powder free Nitrile Gloves, cheap and disposable. Not sure if its any better than cotton gloves or any difference. Just noticed my LCS using them when he was handling bullion coins putting them into flips. I already had them so I've just been using those.

The do not make me clumsier, so I believe they are a good choice.

Dollar tree carries these nitrile gloves and that is what I use... When I can find them anyways.
Unfortunately, my son has a bit of a thing for playing with stuff like this and filling them with water... and wasting them, so I kind of have to buy a few packs at a time and hide some. Lol.
Most of my proofs are not the expensive, graded and slabbed ones. The 1981 type 2 was the first one I ever bought that was more than like, 10 dollars. Other then that, I'm not gonna be too hard on myself if my inexpensive proofs aren't in the most perfect shape after transferring back and forth.

For most coin tasks that require gloves I just use one on my left hand. For most of the rest I use one on my right.
There are some bad ones out there that can't be used more than once or twice but the good ones last.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Remember jbuck, I did say when I was young, we had no access to any coin website, info was limited, we learned by reading magazines such as Coin World, in those days.. But the big part of it all, we did not worry about cleaned coins or a big thumbprint as we do today...
