I've come across conflicting information about what the "Series" and "Coin" numbers mean on PCGS slabs. I've attached an image of one for reference. Since I've never uploaded an image before, in case it didn't work, the label reads: "Series: 39PR Coin: 38."

What-Is-The-Series-Code-And-Coin-Number-On-PCGS-Slab?

From the glossary, I understand that "Series" refers to a motif used over time. However, I also saw a post on this forum suggesting that "Series" appears when duplicate coins are submitted in bulk, with the "Coin" number designating the specific coin from the lot.

I apologize if this is a basic question, I'm still new to this. Thanks for your help!

Series is just that. What coin series is it.

In this case, 39PR Washington quarter Proof and this is the 38th coin in that series.

I found it annoying and avoided that label type when I built my Ike set.

Wow did not know that, here I thought it meant the submitter submitted at least 38 coins in one submission.

to the CCF

jbuck is correct. There exist multiple coins slabbed with the identical Series and Coin numbers. The only unique identifier on the slab is the serial number - in this case 71770232

The Series and Coin information appeared on PCGS slabs for a limited time only.

Series/Coin blue labels were around longer than you think...

They first appeared on the Generation 4.0B label in October 1998 and were removed at the end of the Generation 4.3 era in November 2005.

Yup, which means there were many of them in my way when I was building my set.
