Quote: This isn't a proof coin...? I thought the same thing. It does look like a proof coin, but the rims are a little uneven and the toning makes it difficult to assess the devices and fields. If this is a proof coin in a MS holder, that would be a big goof-up by PCGS...

Awesome... can you imagine the discussion and excitement at PCGS while assigning the grade?
Congrats!

Well, congrats, I just saw this. It looks like the link is dead, says the cert number doesn't exist. Did they make catch a mistake?

BadThad is right, the cert number is gone. It was a proof...?

That is awesome! But I also can't get into the link you have provided. It looks like some of the members were able to see your coin.. Can you post a picture of your 1969-S MS69 Lincoln Cent for the rest of us to see? Thanks!

Found this little info; On August 2006, PCGS graded a regular circulation-strike 2003 Lincoln Cent as MS-70 RD (full red), marking the first time they had awarded that grade to a Lincoln Cent meant for circulation. (CoinWeek).. By the way, that coin was later downgraded from MS70 to MS69 after it developed a visible copper spot. Could this be the reason the ebay 1969-S Lincoln Cent listing was taken down? From the ebay listing: " This listing was ended by the seller on Fri, Aug 29 at 6:54 PM because there was an error in the listing".

According to PCGS, that is a PR69BN. If that is correct, then that is a big difference from a MS69BN. PR grades are expected to be high.

Hahaha I just saw all these replies! Yes, there was a mechanical error by PCGS— the coin is a proof, so I sent it back to PCGS, they've corrected the grade and now it is up as you guys have seen as a PF69BN. However, what is still very cool is that is still is the highest graded brown Lincoln Cent in either proof or business strike known. There are only three Lincoln cents graded 69 Brown.. the other two are type 4, and are not really beautifully toned. The coin is currently at great collections, and Ian is planning on creating a marketing activation around it. There has been great interest so far. Keep your eyes peeled for the listing which should be in a month or so.

Just to add, the two other known PF69BN cents are a 1992-S and a 2004-S.
