I received my AI Proof set yesterday. Time will tell if this is the end of an era. Quote: You could get a huge Cabinet gun safe to place it into.. I have one that I use for a majority of my coin collection and a few other important things including a much smaller fireproof document safe. Honestly it's bursting at the seams from my years of collecting; I definitely need to thin it out.

I said nothing of the kind. I countered speculation, to say that the subscription to the individual set had ended but the regular proofs might continue as part of a larger package combined with the circulating coins. I also noted that the regular proofs aren't mandated while the series is legislated to continue through the entire series, but there was nothing absolutely confirming that the regular proof editions were terminated until this announcement, at least that I had seen.
I thought I was doing a service to this thread by posting the final word from the Mint when I first learned of it. But if you say I "mentioned that back in September", please find that post and link/quote me.
Edit to add: My original interpretation of the Mint's message is that the regular proof coinage has stopped, but reading this again it might still be about the individual set like has previously been discussed. Still, it's an updated comment from the Mint that I thought was worth sharing. I'll just go back to lurking instead.

My speculation is they are moving proof set production to Philly or West Point—which would be a new product for subscription—so they can wind down all production in San Francisco, eventually shuttering that branch and selling it for commercial real estate.

Quote: My speculation is they are moving proof set production to Philly or West Point I hope that is true. They have done it in the past. It would be a shame if Dearborn can't keep his nice collection going. A proof is a proof, the mint mark only designates where they were struck. I'm a "completest" also and would like to keep the proofs going to the end of the series.

Quote: It would be a shame if Dearborn can't keep his nice collection going. *cough* *cough* And me keeping mine *cough* *cough* Quote: A proof is a proof, the mint mark only designates where they were struck. And plenty of proof issues are already made in the other locations. Quote: I'm a "completest" also and would like to keep the proofs going to the end of the series.

Quote: It would be a shame if Dearborn can't keep his nice collection going. I'll find a way to keep it going without the proofs - the reverse proof along with the P and D coins will fit just fine the way that Dansco created their album. You are and I thank you - I went back and found that I read your statement incorrectly - you were talking about the San Fran Mint maybe closing.. (I'm not perfect ya know and can be susceptible to making errors.)
