Though they don't mention the 1936 Cleveland Centennial / Great Lakes Exposition Half Dollar, I thought folks might be interested in some contemporary advertising for the Great Lakes Exposition by the Come-To-Cleveland Committee.

The Art Exhibit appears to have grown (or at least become more valuable!)

The Expo sounds like fun! Now where did I put my time machine?

I love the advertising! And I need to add one of those commemoratives to my collection, having lived in Cleveland for a few years.

A quick glace at Wikipedia tells me that it was held next to the old Cleveland Municipal Stadium, where the Browns and Indians once played. The stadium was just north of downtown and right on the Lake Erie shore. It was constructed in 1931, 5 years prior to the Exposition and demolished in 1996 to make way for the new Cleveland Browns Stadium that opened on the same spot in 1999. The grounds that hosted the expo are now home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Great Lakes Science Center.

Wow - a truly enjoyable flamboyant advertising brochure for what apparently, if the claims are to believed, must have been a fantastic expo.

I would go there tomorrow if I were not 89 years too late.

Truly enjoyed reading this historical piece of ephemera from your collection! Thanks for sharing.
