I really have no intentions to slab this coin. I am more prone to buying slabs and busting them out for my albums. That being said, this is from my Pop's collection which is complete less the most obvious out of budget examples, namely 1893S and 1995 Proof. Most were accumulated by my pop before cleaning was taboo. I am not proficient at grading Morgan's, not to mention the extensive VAM varieties. It is my hope to at least fill the 1893S hole to fully feel this collection is complete. I will probably be tossing a bit more your way in this topic to expand my knowledge on Morgans. I am a Wheat cent guy. |

Am I wrong? that is correct. if you blow up the coin, the hits on the jaw and neck as well as the severity of some of them along with the eye appeal due storage issues I lowered it to MS62 rather a 63 grade. keep in mind that the grade in essence represents the value of the coin. I feel the coin is not worth a full MS63 value based on this. I could say MS63 but then place a disclaimer that the coin would not command that price. |

That's fine Panzaldi. I'm am pleased that it just rates over a 60 and a straight grade. I know you won't find a bag coin gem. It is just that alot of the coins in my pops collection have problems. I am attempting to determine a market price for the collection that is reasonable.

I would give this coin an acetone bath. May get rid of the red-looking gunk on the reverse.

Since you are not considering slabbing the coin Dowhat, I suggest an acetone bath and then store her in an airtite holder to protect it. this coin will only go up in value over the years and you do not want that value decreased by further improper storage. if you are not familiar with acetone this would be procured from a hardware store, not nail polish remover. |

I would say, If you're buying it in a " PCGS or NGC holder, you can trust that someone far more knowledgeable than Tom, Dick, or Harry has already determined the grade. The coin is securely protected in a durable, professional holder that looks far superior to any aftermarket option. It's officially registered with its own certification number, and since it costs money to have it slabbed, it naturally deserves and commands a higher premium. |

It seems from the opinions offered here it may be in my best interests to have this graded. I would probably go with NGC as it seems to me the large volume of business at PCGShas effected their standards from what I have observed from others. Perhaps in an effort to increase turnover they have acquired more graders with less scrutinize.

PCGS is just like the rest of them. Some think PCGS is the King of grading because Joe Shmoe, the coin dealer on YouTube, said so...  |
