I would like opinions on whether this medal is genuine.

It's meant to be a 1979 10th Anniversary Great Libyan Revolution medal in sterling silver. It has the right weight, diameter, and my Sigma says it's sterling silver, but the finish of the medal looks really cheap and quite.... fake. The medal came from a mixed world coins lot at auction.

https://en.numista.com/76887

Catalog weight: 28.27g. My weight: 28.00g
Catalog diameter: 40mm My diameter: 40mm

Medal thickness is 3mm. Tests within brackets on Sigma Metal verifier on sterling silver setting.

The photos:

It is really shiny and looks unlike any other silver coin I have. It tests fine, but just looks... odd.

Lastly, there seem to be wildly different values for this medal. On ebay there's a sold listing for PCGS UNC Details Cleaned for US$220

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/167266041691

But looking auctions linked from the Numista page the going price is about US$45.

Were there restrikes? Copies made in sterling silver?

Comments welcome.

The details on it just don't look fine enough compared to the Numista listing. Could it be a plated copy?
Here's an active listing for one on ebay that looks rather sketchy: 127160909830

Yes, that's what I'm thinking. It just doesn't look fine enough.

I haven't got the medal with me at the moment, but according to online searches it should be 2.1 to 2.3mm thick. This one looks thicker, so it's a counterfeit.

The fact that my Sigma shows it to be genuine sterling silver is a concern. The more I use my Sigma the less I trust it, unless testing a coin that's clearly the wrong metal. I've had my Sigma tell me many 19th century UK silver coins are outside the brackets when they were genuine, and now this medal gives a squeaky clean perfect result but it's not genuine.

Yes, bad photos and it looks even lower in detail than my medal. It looks so bad it could be a chocolate medal covered in aluminium!

Seller made me an offer on their item, so I made a counteroffer. I'll let you know if they accept.

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you, that the seller rejected your offer for the cheaply cast knock-off

It has to be one of the most lazy effort counterfeits I've ever seen. Whoever created my copy at least put some effort into it and it passes a Sigma test too.
