So I've decided to try something different. I already have a small collection of Canadian cents starting at 1937. I don't have all the years or the varieties.
I also have a very small assortment of Canadian (Beaver) nickels. My idea is to build a Dansco album consisting of blank pages for both Canadian cents and nickels. Cents and nickels, if anyone knows me here in general, are my favorite coins to collect.
I purchased a 1920 small cent. I figured this would be a good starting point and only cost 2 bucks. Not bad at all. I am thinking about starting at 1922 for the nickels, since from what I've read, this appears to be the year they moved away from a silver composition? I would assume the design also changed as well.
Any suggestions/advice? I think this will definitely make for a fun and cheap project in addition to collecting the usual American cents, nickels, quarters, etc.

I think that'll look great. I do love the variety in Canadian coinage; victory & chromium plated nickels, the 1967 rabbit, the 1951 nickel commemorating the discovery of nickel, so many others! Plan accordingly with those nice Dansco pages

Beware, some of those 1920's cents are hard to get, and expensive. Do some research. Good luck.

Quote: Congrats on coming over. What grades are you looking for Thanks! I am not really sure honestly. Most of the coins I have are pretty heavily circulated. Some of them are in pretty nice shape, though. I am looking for honestly whatever is best on my budget. Many of the cents in the 20's aren't cheap, but from what I can tell, not terribly expensive, either. 1920 and 1921 aren't costly. 1922, 23 and 25 are the more expensive ones it seems. 24 is up there too, I think. I think its around 1927-28 they start going back down in price due to higher mintage I would assume. I could be wrong, though. Definitely not an expert.

Thanks, jbuck! I recently ordered some spare nickel pages. I have multiple projects involving various different nickels, so I'll see which way I'm gonna go. So far, I have two blank pages for the cents. I wouldn't be surprised if I needed 3 pages for nickels and cents. Here's an image from the 1920 cent I purchased from ebay. Nothing too crazy. As you can see, clearly circulated.

Give it a Verdi-Care soak, you may be surprised.

verdi-care is good, but don't use on a coin with luster. If you have the oily, solid gunk, try to remove it GENTLY with toothpicks or hawthorn thorns. for my own coins with Vicky large cents, we had that we called the "Vicky gunk" and used the thorns first to get large portions out of the nooks and crannies.

Quote:Very nice! I may give some of them a cleaning. Haven't thought about it too much. I am trying to decide which is the right binder size.... I am guessing I will probably overall need six pages when all is said and done. I think I will buy them over time, though. The Dansco 1 inch empty binder should work I would think. Says it holds five to six pages.

The amount of pages you will require will depend on whether you are interested in collecting the varieties or not. Some of them can be expensive.

Not entirely sure yet. I know my goal to start with is to have one from each year minted. After that, I will potentially look into affordable varieties, depending on what they are.
