That is a truly AMAZING find! Congratulations and be sure to try and get more boxes ASAP. There may be more just like the ones you opened.
Good luck and continued success.

It makes me wonder who cashed all these in? Someone who had a hoard of old coins and didn't realize what they were worth? You would think that wouldn't happen, but... I also participate in a financial/investment forum and there was a newer poster on there who was asking the best way to cash in a large number of quarters. He said they were all saved by his father in the 1950's and early 60's. He was going to dump them into the coinstar machine. I gave him the 10x face talk plus the look for mint marks from the 30's and early 40's talk. He was very thankful to say the least - unfortunately, he didn't respond to my "I'd buy them all in a heartbeat at 10x face" comment! Ken

That is simply amazing! Just yesterday, I had a Brink's security system installed in my home. The installer was a real 'talker'. When we got on the subject of the armored car division, he told me they received 300-400 locked boxes from local Kroger store, Coin Star machines, a WEEK. Coin Star has their machines in more location than Kroger's. I have to believe that is where all that silver came from. Another interesting fact he said: All the employees (including office, mechanics, etc.), wear firearms.
GREAT FIND!

Opps..........I just remembered that Coin Star is not suppose to accept silver. Put the thinking cap back on!

Highly doubtful because CoinStars use electronic comparators and silver coins do not have the same electrical signature as circulating coinage. The machines also use this same method to discard foreign coins and slugs.

Biokemist: I remembered that after I posted. What is the reasoning behind that, and is the same true with the machines in bank lobbies?

I can say that at least the machine at the banks I use do not care if the coin is silver or not, it will put them in the bag with the rest.

Nod: I don't have any banks in my area that have machines. Was curious. Thanks.

A standard box of halves is $500. I am picking one up later today. Hope it is equally as good.
