Maybe my favorite thing about collecting world banknotes is that you can acquire beautiful designs on a very affordable budget! My first banknote for 2017 fits into that category of very common but also very striking: a Djibouti 40 Francs P-46 commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Djibouti's Independence. The obverse depicts a whale shark swimming through a coral reef, while the reverse features ships and cranes over an aerial image of Djibouti port.

The ND (2017) Fiji 7 Dollars P-120 was the world's first $7 banknote. It commemorates the Fijian Rugby 7s Team winning the gold medal in the 2016 Summer Olympics. The vertical obverse depicts the team's coach Ben Ryan sitting on Sigatoka sand dunes and team captain Osea Kolinisau running with the ball. The horizontal reverse shows the team with Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama.

Quote: The horizontal reverse shows the team with Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama. -That's a cool denomination & one of 33 notes I own for 2017 (according to my Numista account). Odd denominations are fun to collect! I was surprised I owned so many from 2017! I have several from the States & Canadian Commemorative $10 which were issued in 2017 P-112: -This is the 2nd time Canada has released a note with more than 1 person featured on the front (the first time was in 1935 for the Commemorative $25 note). It features John A Macdonald, George-etienne Cartier, Agnes Campbell Macphail & James Gladstone Akay-na-muka. Since the note is so dark purple it doesn't show as well in a photo (or scan) as it does in person. (Date is printed in bottom right corner "1867-2017"). The other notes I seemed to have amassed in quantity were these low denominations from the Philippines. I got these after a 2018 trip & am glad I did because both feature a treasurer/president signature combo which turned out to be brief. The special serial numbers are cool & they'd be much more expensive if I were to try to pick them up today. (The small dates can be seen under the top left denomination markers 20, 50 & 100) I also liked the back of the 100 Pesos as it features a whale shark which my wife & I went to view (up close) in little boats off Oslob, Cebu Island when we returned in 2023.

Quote:Excellent! Quote: More beautiful notes I see each time I visit this thread! Thanks @jbuck & @scopru! 2016The 20 Pesos from the Philippines features the Bust of Manuel L. Quezon, front-facing at left centre, Malacaņan Palace (bottom centre), declaration of "Filipino" as the national language at left, arms and bank seal at upper centre. This solid 8 radar is P-206a with the first signature combination (& the last 20 Pesos before going to coin in 2023): I think @CollegeBarbers will appreciate this $100 from Guyana with the church on the reverse. It is a "No Date" note but was issued in 2016 according to the signature & my Numista entry for P-36c:

Lovely series of banknotes, walk2dwater! The whale shark on the 100 Pesos is definitely my favorite of the Philippines notes you shared, and the 2017 Canadian note is very nice. Quote: I think @CollegeBarbers will appreciate this $100 from Guyana with the church on the reverse. I certainly do! My example of that type will make an appearance in 11 years. My only banknote from 2016 is a Ukraine 20 Hryven P-128. This type commemorates 160 years since the birth of Ivan Franko, a prominent literary figure depicted on the obverse. The reverse depicts the Lviv Opera House.

2015 is another one-type only year for me with this ND (2015) Qatar 1 Riyal P-28(2). The obverse has very intricate printing with sailboats and palm trees, while the reverse shows three birds native to Qatar: Crested Lark, Eurasian Bee-Eater, Lesser Sand Plover. This note fits nicely in my bird theme!

@CollegeBarbers I always find it interesting the way these desert nations have so many boats as part of their banknote designs. Nice add! I have these 2 radars from Columbia. Date can be read on the back of the P-459 5000 Pesos note: Here is one example (one of a few 8 digit radars I own): It features poet Jose Silva standing in the center (in the middle of the honeycomb). The reverse features the Andes mountains with rivers flowing down, high-elevation plants, a bear, a condor and a bumblebee. The other notes are from our brief 2015 Commemorative $20. Little fanfare over this modification of the 2012 note's see-through holographic window. You can see the QE when she was first crowned a little 2015 date change signifying Queen Elizabeth II as longest reigning monarch: If you are having trouble seening/reading the holographic strip, check out the Numista entry & their image (black background). Their image of the darkened holographic strip highlights the text much better: https://en.numista.com/201754
