I venture a guess you don't collect DDR newer dated nickels!

That would be correct. I did buy my first coin in 1972 from a coin store in my home town out of one of those displays that revolve around when you push the button.Dang I miss that store. If you guys want to call that a Doubled die go right ahead but that's not what it is going by the definition of Doubled.

jasper62,
I would suggest that you do some reading on the subject of doubled die coins. Learn how they come to be and what processes are involved. This will help you be able to tell one when you see it.

and Marve65...Nice DDR!

I have been studying and reading about coins since the 70's and have been disagreeing with crap like this for fifty years. I just find it hard to believe you can look me in the eye and say You see a Doubled Die Their is Absolutely Nothing that shows Doubling on any of the devices. Now if you want to call it circulation flattening I would be hard press to even agree with that.

Jasper, you can disagree with the terminology all you like, but your argument isn't with us. You'll have to take it up with CONECA and the experts who established the doubled die classifications. By the accepted standards, this coin represents a Class VI doubled die reverse.

Although I do often indulge in debates of the No True Scotsman variety, I usually prefer to be on my second or third pint before the real hair splitting over terminology starts. =)

You sure about that? I feel like I'm debating flat earthers or trying to convince people that we DID in fact go to the moon and back.

From your stated definition on page one... "make twice as much or as many of (something)..."

That something is the impressions made into the die.

The impressions have been doubled. The die has a doubled impression. It is a doubled die.

. . . I asked AI to show me a photo of a 1934 Lincoln Cent with a Doubled Die feature on the reverse.
. . . . . Here's what I got back from AI, even Marve65 1934 Lincoln Cent pop-up in this search:

You do not have to see it, but it happened.

And for record... The moon landing. I was not there. I was in utero. But I know it happened. And yes, our Earth is an oblate spheroid. I have not been beyond the Kármán line to see it. But I know it is true.

You do not have to. Trust me, no one is losing sleep over this. At least I am not. But I am over other things. Other very bad things going on. But not this.

When we talk about 'doubled dies' we sometimes look for 'split serifs' and I se exactly that on the dot between the E and P - we sometimes call it a 'Snowman dot' to almost complete circular dots, connected.

And THAT is good enough for me.
