Need some help determining which variety this 1896 Canadian 5 Cent is.
There are two varieties: "Far 6" and "Near 6".
So, I ask my Canadian friends, which variety does this coin picture below represent?
Note: Guessing is not allowed...
Thanks!

Where did you get the information that there is a Large and Small 6 1896 5 cent variety.
As far as I know there was no variety in 1896.
I know of the 1886 variety.

Could this be what they are talking about, the coin on the left, the 6 seems closer to the 9?

Where did you find this tidbit of misinformation?
AFAIK the 6, which was an inverted 9 or vice versa, was hand punched into each die, there are at least 4 discernible varieties, high 6, low6, slanted 6, and doubled6.None carry a premium and none are attributed by any reputable grading company.
Yours is one of the high sixes.

AI is going to ruin our pastime with incorrect data that probably can never be changed back to reality or actual documentation..

No it's not. It's AI and at present when it comes to coins they don't know what they are talking about. For now use a reputable reference.

Your AI info isn't even in the ballpark for the number minted.

CoinForMe, the Coins and Canada site lists 1896 "near 96" and "far 96" varieties under 5 cents 1896 - Average auctions prices and values. Based on measuring the spaces in your pictures, my guess is that your left picture is a "near 96" and your right photo is a "far 96", in relation of those two digits to the 1 and 8 in the date. Hope that helps!

When you use that site and go to specific information about a coin, this shows up as a link below the varieties listed
View the average prices of certified 5 cents 1896 sold at auctions »
Clicking that link takes you to average prices in auctions of 3rd party graded coins for last year and this...

That's where I saw the far 96 and near 96...I believe they were both MS-64 coins..
