The Kingdom of Etruria was short-lived. It was founded in 1801 as a new kingdom, formed from the territories of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, and was briefly ruled by the family of Carlo Ludovico. In 1807, the kingdom disappeared.
Carlo Ludovico, born in 1799 and not yet four years old, succeeded his father as King of Etruria. His mother, Infanta Maria Luisa, assumed the regency because he was a minor.
Carlo Ludovico's role in this was simple: he was a child who inherited a crown too early, lost it too early, and remembered it for the rest of his life.
In 1807, Napoleon Bonaparte dissolved the Kingdom of Etruria, and Carlo Ludovico and his mother sought refuge in Spain.
During this time, coins were minted for the kingdom, the official currency under the Etrurian regime. You will find some of them in this blog. Curious? Follow the link.
