I posted about this the last time there was a big increase in the price of silver over what I thought was a fairly short time (maybe mid to late 2010?). When I see a commodity price chart that shows such a large increase in price I see a chart that's due for a correction. The only difference between now and then is the chart is even steeper. IMO a 100% increase in 12 months is bubble territory. I know I'm going to get a lot of push back because I did the last time I posted a similar message. Cue the comments about the difference between the paper and physical markets, the naked shorts, market manipulation by the big firms, it's different this time, etc.

The problem is supply versus demand, and industry is pushing the demand. There will be (modest) pullbacks, but I think sub-$50 silver days are forever behind us. The shrinking value of the US dollar alone will make sure of that. As always, I am prepared to be wrong and will let time reveal its truth. But I am not banking on it, just along for the ride.

Last time I looked the dollar had declined by 11% this year. That's a factor in the price. So is increased industrial demand. I don't see the combination of the two being responsible for the 100%+ price increase we've seen this year. When the dust settles we'll be left with a new silver spot price range. Whether that range is above or below $50 is just a guess. I buy a fair amount of silver at estate sales and the like. At these levels I'm not holding it any longer than I have to.

I can't think of anything better to be holding right now other than silver and gold. I sure don't want to be holding anything paper.

I bought most of my silver at 6-10x face. Even at $70+, my wife still isn't on board. Welcome to my world.

From the AP Wire this morning: Quote: NEW YORK (AP) — Silver and gold futures fell sharply Monday after the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, one of the world's largest trading floors for commodities, asked traders to put up more cash to make bets on precious metals with prices surging this year.
This year, gold futures are up 65% and silver has more than doubled. The CME raised margin requirements for gold, silver and other metals in a notice posted to the exchange's website Friday. These notices require traders to put up more cash on their bets in order to insure against the possibility that the trader will default when they take delivery of the contract.
Silver futures tumbled 8% early Monday while gold slid 5%

Per the thread title: If you missed out on selling silver @ $60, you might get a second chance in a few days.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures
