Hi... I came across this odd ball the other day. Something sure seems off with the L in LIBERTY and maybe even the last 5 in the date. Curious if anyone else thinks this is a variety or mint error or just a run of the mill 55 wheat.

Thanks!

The 'L' on the rim is normal, but it is distorted by Die Deterioration, same for the 5.

I can see radial flow lines that are on the die indicating stress and that the die needed to get changed soon.

Simple case of Die Deterioration. Flow lines indicate that.
No extra value as it is part of the minting process.

Looks like a possible die crack on the bottom of the "I" in Liberty. Hard to tell for sure from the images. If it is a crack, it would be considered a "BIE". More precisely an "LII".

Yes, Die Deterioration issue. The last 5 in the date suggests an early stage 'poor man's' doubled die (not a real DDO, of course)--not uncommon for the Philly minted '55 cent. Nice patina, too.

I agree as well. Keep it as a good example for reference.
